AFTER HOURS GP HELPLINE (funded by the Australian Government Department of Health)
Call 1800 022 222
When you call the after hours GP helpline, a registered nurse will assess you and based on your symptoms, the nurse may offer you a phone call or a video call from a GP. The GP will contact you within 15 minutes or 1 hour depending on the urgency of your health issue and the post code you are calling from. You can either choose a phone call or a video call.
At the end of your call, you will be offered a care advice summary, sent to you by SMS or email, so you can easily recall the details of the advice you are given.
You can also agree to have a summary of your call sent to your regular GP’s practice overnight, so they are aware of the call when they open their surgery the following day. The after hours GP helpline can also upload a summary of your call to your My Health Record.
If you are calling from outside the major cities, the after hours GP helpline is available:
- Monday to Friday, 6pm – 7:30am
- Saturday, from midday
- Sunday and Public Holidays, all day
